Beasts of Abigaile is a manga series about a girl who gets turned into a part-human part-wolf hybrid. But the humans who live in the kingdom have enslaved the wolf people, and now Nina must go to a prison-like school on Abigaile Island with the other wolf children to learn how to be an obedient slave. That school is much like a typical high school, and has all kinds of high school drama, but with the added layer of werewolf life.
Volume 3 is really about whether Nina has been accepted into werewolf society. She has to wear a special perfume, because otherwise the luga (werewolves) will smell that she’s human. But when Nina’s perfume is stolen, she’ll find out where she really stands, and if her friends will like her now that they know her secret. They’ve been hurt very badly by the humans, and so the real question is whether they’ll hold it against Nina that she was once one of them.
This is the first book in the series where I really started to like Roy, the alpha male werewolf/probable love interest who turned Nina into a wolf in the first place. In the other books, I thought he was an ass, but here, we see him give Nina the chance to prove herself. And I had thought that Giles (the nicer werewolf guy) was a good person because of the way he looked out for Nina in earlier books, but my impression of him is somewhat changed.
This is also the book where we figure out the secret of the student council, which leaves off on a giant cliffhanger.
I can’t get enough of this manga and the next one does’t come out till fall! Whatsoever shall I do??????
