The summer is swiftly ending and turning into fall. The nights are getting cooler, the cicadas are chirping, and the grocery store shelves are stocked with pumpkin beers.
It’s time for the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril Challenge that’s hosted each year by Carl from Stainless Steel Droppings. The challenge runs from September 1-October 31. Now, challenge is a bit of a misnomer, because Carl’s challenges aren’t about seeing how much you can read, but rather to gather people together to read books centered around a specific theme. For the RIP challenge, this means reading books that fit within the mystery/gothic/horror/dark fantasy/thriller/supernatural genres. The definition is very broad. The challenge includes many different levels of participation, and I’m going to aim for Peril the First, which involves reading four books. Because the genres encompass so many different types of books, I think that I should be able to manage it.
Most years I post a list that gives me some ideas of what I might read, but this year I’m not going to bother, because I never stick to my list anyway. I’m just gonna go with the flow and read whatever I’m in the mood for. I’ll probably lean more toward the supernatural/dark fantasy genres, because that’s what I have the most of on my TBR pile.
